ANIMAL ATTRIBUTE

PROJECT REFLECTION

For this project, I wanted to create something that was both fun and meaningful. I chose to design a 2D parrot and turn it into a stamp using craft foam or rubber sheets, cut on a Cricut. I plan to glue the layers together to make a stamp I can use on cards, totes, bookmarks, and notes—basically little items that can bring joy or give me a comedic brain break. The stamp will say “Un pajarito me dijo,” which I thought added a cute, playful touch that ties into the chisme-loving parrot energy.

This piece is also personal—it's in honor of the women on my mom’s side of the family, who all have a special connection to birds. My great-grandmother had many birds, and my grandma and mom would always tell me stories about their parrots: how funny, mischievous, and chismosos they were. Those stories stuck with me, and I’ve always felt birds were symbolic in my life. One day while shopping, I saw a little bird decoration, and it honestly felt like a sign that this was the right direction for my project.

I originally tried to create a 3D version of a bird in Tinkercad, but I found it really difficult to navigate. My designs felt messy and disjointed, so I eventually pivoted. While I still want to explore Tinkercad more in the future, the stamp-making idea felt more doable and just as meaningful. Plus, I’ve never used a Cricut before and have always wanted to—so this felt like a great opportunity to try something new.

Overall, I think this project is cool because it can be as simple or deep as you want it to be. For me, it’s both. It’s a tribute to family, culture, memory, and a little bit of silliness—all things I carry with me.
